Le Groupe Maurice rides for Parkinson’s once again!
Once again this year, Le Groupe Maurice has invested in a cause close to its heart by participating in the 14th edition of the 2024 Défi Vélo Parkinson. This event aims to raise public awareness of Parkinson’s disease and collect funds to support research and programs that aid those affected. Here’s a recap of the outstanding efforts of the teams who rose to this sporting and charitable challenge!
Teaming up against Parkinson’s
Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative neurological condition that causes, among other symptoms, progressive motor difficulties and cognitive decline. The WHO estimates that over 8.5 million people globally are affected with this debilitating disease. Despite ongoing medical research to develop effective treatments, the underlying causes of Parkinson’s remain shrouded in mystery.
Combating this disease demands a collaborative and unified effort. The solidarity of healthcare professionals, patients, families and philanthropists is vital to educate the public, provide support and drive progress. This is the very essence of the Défi Vélo Parkinson.
This annual cycling event, uniting riders of all backgrounds for a day of friendly competition and camaraderie, strives to make a tangible impact on the lives of those living with Parkinson’s disease. By covering routes geared to all skill levels, participants aim to collect much needed funds for Parkinson Quebec.
Pedalling for principals
For the 14th edition of the Défi Vélo, Le Groupe Maurice stepped up its efforts and reaffirmed its dedication to the cause by fielding a great close-knit team! As in previous years, the 370 participants had the option to choose from three scenic routes of 40, 60 and 100 km, all starting from beautiful Oka National Park.
On a lovely sunny day, the twenty cyclists from Le Groupe Maurice pedaled with passion and pleasure, taking in the breathtaking views along the way!
“For us, cycling is a way to show our support for those affected by Parkinson’s disease and their loved ones. With every kilometer, we’re making progress, both physically and morally, at our own pace. It’s a real pleasure to meet the challenge as one true team!”, shares Julie Tardif, Vice President Finances of Le Groupe Maurice.
With a common target of raising $350,000 in donations by September 30th, Le Groupe Maurice teams have made a remarkable achievement, having already collected almost $18,830 by August 24th! This amount is the result of generous contributions, including a $10,000 sponsorship from Le Groupe Maurice, individual donations totaling $7,130, and a $1,700 contribution from the Luc Maurice Foundation through its donation matching program.
Thank you to the Foundation for joining forces with Le Groupe Maurice to support this fundraising effort! We also extend our warmest gratitude to the donors and the courageous cyclists who rode under the colours of Le Groupe Maurice. Your participation in the fight against Parkinson’s disease is a shining example of solidarity and our community engagement.
Bravo, and looking forward to next year’s event!
