Défi de marche Groupe Maurice: A walk for all ages.

|Défis du Parc

Les Défis du Parc is starting strong in 2024 with a flagship event for athletes of all ages. Défi de marche Groupe Maurice, now in its 17th year, brought together a sizable group of participants on September 8th. Join us as we reflect on an experience that was both rewarding and rejuvenating!

Les Défis du Parc: fitness and togetherness in the great outdoors

Les Défis du Parc welcomes more than 3000 participants annually to the stunning La Mauricie National Park in Shawinigan. Taking place from September 6th to 8th, this popular event features a range of activities including cycling, running and walking. There’s something for everyone, regardless of age or fitness level.

Beyond promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, Les Défis du Parc strengthens bonds between individuals and encourages social interactions. Défi de marche Groupe Maurice, in particular, excels through its inclusive and community-driven strategy, making it a standout event.

Organized in collaboration with Le Groupe Maurice, this non-competitive challenge seeks to encourage physical activity for the health and wellness of older persons. The 4 km walking course is carefully designed to be inclusive and adaptable to the abilities of all participants, ensuring an enjoyable experience.

Walking together for the better

This challenge offers more than just physical activity; it’s a chance to bridge the gap between generations, connect with others and share a memorable adventure. As participants walk along the park’s scenic trails, they can appreciate the natural beauty of La Mauricie National Park. This experience nourishes both body and mind, combating loneliness and cultivating a deep sense of community in a stunning natural setting.

Défi de marche Groupe Maurice remains a crowd-pleaser, with over 335 participants taking part this year, collectively walking almost 1340 km! Notably, 150 residents from 45Nord, Cornelius, iVVi, Floréa, Le Savignon and Jardins du Campanile joined the event.

“I’m delighted to see familiar faces returning annually, and also to meet new ones. What brings people here is not just about achieving a personal best, but about embracing the joy of being together.” – John Conway, Recreation Program Manager.

Under a bright sun, participants tackled the challenge with boundless energy and enthusiasm! To round off the day, walkers were treated to a light meal at the finish. And, just as she had at the start, Professor Caroline Duranleau from the Roses team led a gentle chair yoga session to relax the muscles, leaving everyone feeling calm and content.

The Défi du parc challenges are therefore much more than mere sporting events. They embody community spirit and collective well-being. By offering opportunities for everyone to participate and benefit from physical activity – including older individuals – these challenges contribute to a more inclusive and healthy society.

A huge thanks to the entire team, particularly the volunteers who helped facilitate the walk, and to all participants for making this a wonderful experience filled with joy and lasting memories. We look forward to seeing you again in 2025 for the next edition!
