The “Let’s Join Forces for the Well-Being of Seniors” march, proudly presented by Un et un font mille and the AGES Foundation, is a signature event showing solidarity towards older people. This year’s fourth edition welcomes back Le Groupe Maurice and the Luc Maurice Foundation as they renew their pledge to support better aging in our community. Let’s take a look at the highlights from 2024 Seniors’ March!

Le Groupe Maurice reaffirms its support for the 2024 Seniors’ March

Whether through its property development projects, community programs, or partnerships with like-minded organizations, Le Groupe Maurice is dedicated to fighting ageism and promoting the well-being of older individuals.

This is why the company took part in the 2024 Seniors’ March for the fourth year in a row, which occurred on October 1st, coinciding with International Day of Older Persons.

As in previous years, solidarity marches took place in Montreal and Quebec City to foster a positive view of aging and combat age-related stereotypes and prejudices.

It’s worth mentioning that numerous other walks were held concurrently in various cities by Le Groupe Maurice’s retirement residences, enabling a wider audience to celebrate better aging.

In total, more than 1700 people marched together that day! Numerous residents and staff from Le Groupe Maurice, along with the team and friends of the Luc Maurice Foundation, demonstrated their commitment by attending. They enthusiastically waved signs with impactful messages, supporting the cause of seniors.

A comprehensive program

The Seniors’ March seeks to highlight the importance of recognizing the rights of older people and their integration into society. “We need to consider seniors as a vibrant force in Quebec and encourage public debates beyond politics,” said Louise Deschâtelets, spokesperson for the event.

This 2024 edition gathered numerous influential figures from the political, corporate and artistic communities at the Quebec City march. Among them was Sonia Bélanger, Deputy Minister of Health, and Minister Responsible for Seniors. Alain Champagne, President and CEO of Le Groupe Maurice, as well as Shirley Dorismond, MNA for Marie-Victorin and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister responsible for Social Services took part in the Montreal march. François Grisé, founder of Un et un font mille, and Dr. Stéphane Lemire, President of Fondation AGES, were also present.

A string quartet from the I Musici Orchestra, along with choristers from the Society for Arts in Health Care (La SAMS), gave a warm welcome to the walkers as they arrived at La Fontaine Park. To top it off, Chef Danny St. Pierre provided a mouth-watering feast for the participants, wrapping up the event in grand fashion!

To complement the speeches and celebrations, a vox pop was conducted to gather the walkers’ thoughts on aging. The answers collected showcased a range of perspectives, providing a poignant and personal glimpse into the meaning of growing older for each person.

Le Groupe Maurice is proud to have participated in the 2024 Seniors’ March. This gesture of solidarity is not only a renewal of its commitment, but also a step towards a more inclusive society where every individual, regardless of age, finds their place and recognition; a step towards a world where it is finally possible to age with pleasure and dignity!

Kudos to the team at Un et un font mille for this outstanding initiative. Gradually, attitudes are shifting for the better. United, we are demonstrating that collective commitment can bring about positive change!
