Lors que le 19e siècle s'achève, Marie, une scientifique déterminée, est à l'aube d'une découverte phénoménale. Malheureusement, oeuvrant dans un domaine dominé par les hommes, celle-ci n'arrive pas à faire entendre sa voix. Elle fait alors la connaissance de Pierre Curie avec qui elle poursuit ses recherches sur la radioactivité, durant lesquelles ils découvrent deux nouveaux éléments : le radium et le polonium, deux substances aux propriétés très prometteuses. Cette découverte leur vaut même le prix Nobel. Mais la route est longue pour Marie avant d'obtenir la renommée, le respect de ses pairs et comprendre l'impossible dans ce monde plein de mystères.
